KEEP GOING SCHOLARSHIP
The Story
We all have a dream.
My dream was to play NCAA Division 1 baseball.
After graduating high school in 2008, I had one college offer at the NCAA Division II level. I was told by some that I would not likely play college baseball after I attended certain showcases. After red-shirting and considering giving up baseball after a discouraging freshman year, I decided to transfer to another NCAA Division II school to continue my baseball career. During my 3 years of playing time at the D2 level, I was able to establish myself into a starting role in the outfield where I found myself as an all conference, all tournament, team award winning player and one of the nation's toughest to strike out. After graduating, I had one year of eligibility left. I attended graduate school at a Division 1 institution. My hopes were to make the roster after a full fall tryout with the team. After 3 months of long days full of team workouts, practices and night classes, I was told I didn't make the roster.
I refused to quit. I continued to show up for November/December workouts before the winter break came. I continued to show up fully dressed at practice despite being told I wasn't on the roster. In January 2013, I scrapped for a .500 batting average and played every play like it was my last. In February of 2013, I was added to the 35 man roster where I had the honor of starting 1/3 of the games, appearing in 1/2 the games, and having the opportunity to hit a double of the defending national champions at the time, University of South Carolina.
My message is never, never, quit. ALWAYS KEEP GOING if you have a dream.
Today, I serve young athletes to teach them it is possible for the underdog to have success if you KEEP GOING.
In 2024, we awarded our first ever KEEP GOING SCHOLARSHIP to Andrew McLaughlin of Ashley Ridge High School.
